MSU Asian Studies Center Video Library

— procedures and request form —

Each year we add titles to our collection of documentary and feature films from Asia and about Asia. Your suggestions and critical remarks are welcomed. There are many sources of video materials these days, including the AEMS (Asian Educational Media Service), local school district media libraries, and the Michigan Humanities Council. A great source for reviews and career details of directors, actors and other production staff is the internet movie database.

Procedure for Students

Students at MSU may borrow at most two films at a time for maximum of three days by showing their student ID and completing the “Request Form for Student (PDF)*.” Students outside of MSU (within Michigan) may view any of the films on MSU campus by contacting Asian Studies Center in advance to arrange a viewing, and showing a valid picture ID on the day of viewing.

Procedure for Educators

Educators in the state of Michigan may freely make use of our feature film & documentary film collection, updated periodically.(We regret that we cannot circulate materials outside the state of Michigan.)

  1. Complete and send the request form (PDF)* with signed assurance statement. The request form may be sent by mail, fax (number below), or scanned e-mail attachment. If the materials requested are available for the dates requested, we will send you up to 3 titles. The borrowing period is 2 weeks from the date you receive the film(s). Note: videos from this collection circulate within Michigan only.
  2. When finished (or at the end of 2 weeks), you must return the film(s) either by USPS, parcel delivery, or in person. Feel free to reuse our mailing package, if serviceable. In the event you need more than 2 weeks, please contact us. We will approve the extension if we have no other requests. Otherwise, films should be back at the Asian Studies Center office by 5:00 PM on the due date. There is a $1.00 charge for each day the film is overdue.
  3. The borrower is responsible for the property during the lending period. If lost, stolen or damaged, borrower agrees to pay replacement cost, including shipping and handling.
  4. If you have further questions, contact Marilyn McCullough (mccull67@msu.edu), Asian Studies Center.
